Formed more than 60 years ago in Singapore by a group of Chinese writers, journalists and scholars, the South Seas Society (Nanyang Xue Hui) was for several decades a driving force in the promotion of scholarly analysis and discussion on issues pertaining to Southeast Asia.

In December 2000, the South Seas Society deposited its journals and publications with the Chinese Heritage Centre. The Chinese language materials are a wealth of scholarly information on the history, culture and society of the Chinese in Southeast Asia.

It is an invaluable resource for researchers interested in the important Chinese perspective on the region.
