Dr Johannes Widodo is a registered architect and currently a fellow in the Department of Architecture at the National University of Singapore. His extensive survey of the morphology of coastal urban cities in Southeast Asia has contributed to the development of an interdisciplinary and multi-perspective approach in the studies of the history of the region. A special emphasis has been placed on the role of the Chinese diaspora in this process of evolution. The author has shown that through tracing the process of Southeast Asian urban morphology, a story of the Chinese diaspora can be told.
